In October 2020, a co-worker posted pictures of a small stray cat he was looking to find a home for. I knew right away that Klaus was the one.

Now I'll have a soft spot for black cats forever. And it really upsets me that superstitions have serious consequences for their well-being—lower adoption rates, higher euthanasia rates, or people who would harm them.

So I decided to do something about it in my own small way. I liked the idea of twisting the phrase "black cats are bad luck" into something positive ("black cats are badass"), and from there I also thought up "Black cats just have a bad publicist". I decided to design a couple of stickers and tote bags, and sell them to raise funds for a local rescue organization.

If you're reading this, I hope you'll help give black cats some better publicity. Because they need it, and they deserve it!
